Swanage Record Club

In this time of digital audio streaming, we consume music one track at a time, fed by algorithms invented by strangers living thousands of miles away. But, when you come to Record Club, you listen to complete albums on vinyl, from start to finish, chosen and introduced by a flesh-and-blood music enthusiast.

We run monthly evening sessions at the Showbar in the Mowlem Theatre in Swanage. Each session is curated by a volunteer, who chooses a theme for the evening’s music. Two albums are presented by the curator, and there is plenty of time for anyone to play tracks they bring which match the theme.

A curator talks about the featured albums and their backgrounds (at the first Record Club).

They are sociable sessions, and people are encouraged to chat while they listen to the records. And, of course, there’s a bar for all manner of drinks and snacks!

No formal membership is required, it’s free and you don’t need to own any vinyl records. All you need is an interest in music and an open mind. Come alone or bring a friend. We are a friendly bunch (it is Swanage after all), and you’ll be made to feel welcome.

We have regulars who come most months. Ages range from 16 to 76, and there’s a healthy mix of genders (we’re not a bunch of craft-ale-drinking chin-strokers!). We get new faces every month, so you won’t be alone.

Try your hand at being a DJ.

And, if you fancy having a go on the decks or curating a future session, one of the regulars will happily show you the ropes.
