In the age of digital audio streaming, we consume music one track at a time, fed by computer algorithms invented by strangers thousands of miles away. But, when you come to Swanage Record Club, you listen to complete albums on vinyl and CD, from start to finish, carefully chosen and introduced by flesh-and-blood music enthusiasts.
We run monthly sessions at the Mowlem Theatre Showbar in Swanage. Each session is curated by a volunteer, who chooses a theme for the evening’s music. The curator introduces two albums, giving background, context and/or a personal view. There is plenty of time for anyone to play album tracks and singles they might bring, which match the theme.
These are informal and sociable sessions. People can chat while they listen to the music. And, being in the Showbar, you can buy drinks and snacks too!
No membership is required and it’s free to come. You don’t even need to own any records. All you need is an interest in music and an open mind. Come alone or bring friends. We are a friendly bunch and you’ll be made to feel welcome. It is Swanage, after all!
We see new faces every month, so you won’t stick out. People come from Swanage and all over Purbeck. There’s a healthy mix of genders, and ages range from 18 to 78. All musical tastes are catered for. Come along, say hello and see what happens at our meet-ups.
And, if you fancy having a go on the decks or curating a future session, one of the regulars will happily show you the ropes. It’s actually good fun.
