Swanage Record Club

In the age of digital audio streaming, we consume music one track at a time, fed by algorithms invented by strangers living thousands of miles away. But, when you come to Record Club, you listen to complete albums, from start to finish, carefully chosen and introduced by flesh-and-blood music enthusiasts.

The Mowlem Theatre, Swanage.

We run monthly sessions at the Showbar in the Mowlem Theatre. Each session is curated by a volunteer, who chooses a theme for the evening’s music. Two albums are presented, and there is plenty of time for anyone to play tracks they bring which match the theme.

Introducing the first album at the first session
A curator introduces one of the featured albums at Swanage Record Club.

They are sociable sessions, and people are welcome to chat while they listen to the records. And there’s a bar for all manner of drinks and snacks!

Drinks (soft and not so soft)and snacks from the bar.

No membership is required, it’s free and you don’t need to own any records. All you need is an interest in music and an open mind. Come alone or bring a friend. We are a friendly bunch (it is Swanage, after all), and you’ll be made to feel welcome.

Summer evenings in the Showbar
“The best view in Swanage!”

We have regulars who come most months. Ages range from 18 to 78, and there’s a healthy mix of genders (we’re not a bunch of craft-ale-drinking chin-strokers!). We see new faces every month, so you won’t stick out.

Spinning the decks at Swanage Record Club
Try your hand at being a DJ for 20 minutes.

And, if you fancy having a go on the decks or curating a future session, one of the regulars will happily show you the ropes.
